A busy Student Parliament meeting

On 7 May, the Student Parliament (StuPa) gathered for its second meeting of the summer term and the seventh meeting of the current legislative period. The following matters were discussed:

How shall we allocate our €50,000?

At the last meeting of the winter term, the StuPa passed a motion calling for a significant increase in the financial compensation for student engagement. Since then, discussions with the university management have successfully secured €50,000 per year for this purpose. The task now is to draw up a proposal on how this sum should be allocated.

The university groups BAGLS, Jusos and PIKSI have consequently put forward a detailed proposal regarding the allowance. The aim: to ensure that as many members of the Student Union (StuVe) as possible are remunerated. According to this proposal, there are three tiers of remuneration, corresponding to the approximate level of effort involved. There was no final decision made yet, however, we will keep you updated on how this develops!

Hooray, we have an ombudsperson!

The StuVe appointed an Ombudsperson in May. On Thursday, the Ombudsperson introduced themselves to the StuPa and were unanimously approved. Their role is to mediate between members of the StuVe and to ensure equality for all.

Deadlines not just for students but also for lecturers

The Jusos have submitted a motion calling for a deadline by which students’ assignments must be marked at the latest. The reason for the motion was that many marks are not announced until late in the following semester. However, many students need these marks to be able to enrol on further courses. The motion was unanimously approved.

More free period products

The Student Parliament voted unanimously to introduce further locations where free period products should be available (in TB2 at M3N/00.36 (ladies’ toilet), in TB4 at HM2/01.30 (all-gender toilet on the first floor) and at Markusplatz in MG2/00.06 (ladies’ toilet on the ground floor).

Peaceful dining, without the military

In the Feki canteen, there is an advertising poster promoting study programmes with the Bundeswehr (=German military). Following a motion by the Jusos, the StuPa demands that canteens, in particular, should be neutral meeting places and that the advertising should be adapted accordingly.

Reviewing the General Student Assembly

The StuPa has tasked the SpRat with developing a new concept for the General Student Assembly to make the event more appealing to all students. The hope is that more people will attend in future and the StuVe is more known in general.

Merch for everyone!

We want to make the StuVe better known and cooler. That’s why we’ll be discussing what the merch could look like at the next committee meeting (22 May). We have €500 available for this.
