Advertising-Free Canteen
At the 9th and final meeting of the Student Parliament in the summer semester 2024, a number of important topics were discussed once again before the well-deserved summer break.
Report from the Studierendenwerk Administrative Board
The Studierendenwerk is planning further functions for its upcoming app. On the one hand, the canteen menus are to be displayed in detail and clearly organised. On the other hand, there will also be a display of the filling level of the canteen, which will show the current rush live. This will make it easier to plan the best time to visit the canteen and avoid long waiting times. Another exciting project that was discussed was the introduction of the so-called Klimateller. This is a particularly sustainable dish that is characterised by a low carbon footprint. The Klimateller is intended to offer students an environmentally conscious and healthy alternative.
Participation in the planning of the new CMS system
The student parliament demands to be actively involved in the planning of the new campus management system (CMS). This is a software that is intended to combine FlexNow, UnivIS and Co. in the long term. As students are the main users of the system, it is important that we are involved in the development process. It was suggested that two or three students be involved in the discussion rounds to ensure that their needs and concerns are directly taken into account.
Request for a label-free canteen
The Bamberg Green-Left Student Initiative (BAGLS) submitted a motion to free the canteens from third-party advertising, especially from companies, as this represents a takeover of public space by companies and advertising is not always in the direct interest of students. There were various opinions on this. It was discussed that advertising revenue could be used to reduce cafeteria prices. In view of the rising cost of living, this would be a direct benefit for students. However, the amount of revenue from advertising needs to be reviewed to clarify whether the income would actually make a noticeable difference. It was also noted that the abolition of advertising would not only eliminate commercial adverts, but also job vacancies for student assistants (HiWi positions) and working student jobs. In the end, the motion for an advertising-free canteen was passed with 12 votes in favour, 3 against and 12 abstentions.
