Bikes for Rent, Laptops to Charge
At its third meeting on 27 November 2025, the Student Parliament (StuPa) dealt with no fewer than 10 motions.
Finally: digital thesis submission
However, there was some good news right at the start: in 2026, theses will finally no longer have to be printed. The Student Representation (StuVe) had been working on this issue for a long time. Most recently, there was a StuPa decision on this matter at the initiative of the Social and Economic Sciences Student Council. Students who submit their bachelor’s or master’s thesis will thus save double-digit amounts.
Bike sharing on the horizon?
The Bamberg Young Socialists (Jusos) kicked off the round of motions. As there are currently discussions about establishing a bike sharing system in Bamberg, the StuPa would like to see university locations included in the plan. To show how nice this could be, applicant Frederik Bauer took a look at Erlangen:
There, students can easily borrow bicycles via the VGN to quickly commute between campus, halls of residence and the city centre. The system has been well received, reduces dependence on cars and contributes to climate protection. Incidentally, this system is free for students with the discounted 600-minute ticket.

New working groups: sustainable urban development and plural economics
The newly established Working Group for Sustainable Urban Development also deals with the future of the city. The two new members believe that ‘sustainable urban development, in terms of the three dimensions of sustainability, is necessary to develop a liveable, affordable and climate-friendly city.’ In their application, they write that they want to work on gathering students’ interests on the topic and then voicing them in the right places.
The Plural Economics Working Group has not been newly established, but has been formally revived. Its aim is to broaden the academic discourse in economics by highlighting previously neglected aspects. The two new representatives have been active for some time and will now organise events under the umbrella of StuVe.
Collective bargaining agreements for student employees
Even though the year was already drawing to a close, the Jusos once again reaffirmed their solidarity with the TVStud 2025 campaign. In their motion, they listed the following key demands:
- Anchoring TV Stud in the collective bargaining agreement of the federal states
- Uniform minimum hourly wages
- A longer minimum contract term of 24 months
The StuPa’s resolution calls on the university management ‘not to block the introduction of a collective agreement and to actively support it’.
Lock up your bikes, plug in your laptops
The last two motions of the evening came from the Bamberg Green Left Student Initiative (BAGLS). They called for more and better parking facilities for bicycles. They criticised the fact that the current capacity was insufficient and demanded ‘covered and secure parking spaces where possible’. Theft protection and accessibility are also concerns addressed in the motion, which was accepted by the student parliament. The focus was particularly on the parking spaces in front of the Austraße canteen and those in front of the Branch Library 3 (Feki).
The last motion brought the evening full circle: at the suggestion of BAGLS, the StuPa called for better provision of power sockets – not only on walls, as a mobile interim solution where possible, and in any case in new buildings. Similar demands had already been made in February 2023 – in a discussion with the university management, which also covered the digital submission of final theses. Lysander from the blog team famously recorded this at the time:
Finally, we were also informed of the latest status of the digital submission of theses. The last hurdle here is a database migration, which will be carried out in the course of the year. Other organisational issues are also currently being clarified. However, such a system should be ready for use by the winter semester 23/24.
Lysander Buntfuß: The foreseeable end of FlexNow, UnivIS and Co. (unfortunately, German only)
Some things just take time. But digital submission is here now – so the power sockets will come eventually. If you need them urgently, it’s best to write to the relevant Student Council and specify the room in question.
